Taking it Literally: Bible Problems

If you followed the rules put forward by the Bible literally, specifically, and thoroughly, you would be arrested and sure to be executed for crimes against humanity.

If we’re not going to take most of it literally, why do we have to take any of it literally?

Can’t we think of a better guidebook to an ethical life than one that sanctions rape, murder, incest, genocide, ethnic cleansing, ritual sacrifice, human sacrifice and forbids a normal, healthy sex life? But asks us to make every decision based on the fear of rejection by a psychotic ancient mountain deity?

(It seems the answer from the majority is, “No.”)
